The Democracy Toolkit supports teaching about civic participation and helps children to engage with democratic principles through practical, hands-on experiences. It can be used in classrooms, individually or in groups.
Co-created with child members of the EU Children’s Participation Platform, the toolkit is designed to build confidence and critical thinking. It includes activities like investigating misinformation as “Disinformation Detectives,” drafting an Environmental Bill of Rights and creating advocacy materials.
It encourages young people to practise democracy, and helps children transform abstract concepts into actions, positioning them not just as learners but as active contributors to their communities.
The Toolkit has supporting notes and explanations for teachers/adults on each activity, and proposals for additional activities to prolong the learning experience.
