Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, participates in a working group session with young participants and representatives at the EU Youth Conference in Dublin.

What do young people want for Europe?

As part of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU, around 300 young people, policymakers and youth representatives from across Europe came together in Dublin from 27 to 30 September for the EU Youth Conference. The event launched the 12th cycle of the EU Youth Dialogue – the EU's main way of consulting young people on issues that affect their lives.

So, what did they talk about?

A key focus was Information and Constructive Dialogue (European Youth Goal 4). Through workshops and discussions with policymakers, participants explored how young people access trustworthy information, develop media literacy, and take part in democratic life.

They also looked at the bigger picture: what should Europe's youth priorities be today? Their recommendations will help shape revised European Youth Goals and feed into the next EU Youth Strategy, due in 2027.

The takeaway? Young people are not just being consulted – their ideas are helping shape Europe's future youth policies.
