On 24 February 2022, Europe woke up to harrowing news about Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. This is not only an attack against Ukraine, but also against the values that we uphold in the European Union. As a Union built on peace, democracy and rule of law, the atrocities taking place on our border remind us of the very reason that the EU was created. The EU has responded with unity, strength and rapidity to this crisis, as it has done throughout the many challenges of the preceding year.
