Explaining the SOTEU speech to young people

Every September, the European Commission President delivers the 'State of the European Union' address (aka SOTEU). In this speech, the President sets out the upcoming actions and priorities for the EU.

These toolkits aim to help young people understand what’s going on in the EU in an accessible way by:

  • explaining the context and content of the SOTEU speech in youth-friendly language
  • offering game-like exercises to follow the speech in an interactive way: ‘predict the topics’ for the older groups (16+) and ‘word lotto’ for the younger ones (ages 12-15)
  • inviting them to reflect on important topics and deliver their own SOTEU speech
