What happens after war separates children from their families? The award-winning documentary “After the Rain” follows Ukrainian children reunited with their loved ones after being forcibly transferred to Russia.
Set in a peaceful forest retreat by the Baltic Sea, the film shows how animal therapy, counselling, and time in nature help families begin to heal from trauma.
Directed by Sarah McCarthy, the documentary highlights the human impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the ongoing efforts to bring deported children home.
The film is available on the European Commission’s audiovisual platform until 10 June, with subtitles in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Arabic.
Recommended for ages 16+, the documentary contains mature themes and may be best suited for classroom viewing with guided discussion.
