On 18 June, three EU institutions—the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission—signed the first-ever Joint Declaration on Culture.

But what is culture? Culture is the music we listen to, the books we read, the languages we speak, the traditions we celebrate, and the art we create. It helps us express who we are and learn about others.

The declaration promises to support artists and young creative talent, celebrate Europe's many cultures and languages, and make culture easier for everyone to enjoy. The EU institutions also recognise that culture can help people come together to face shared challenges.

This is a historic moment. By working towards a shared vision, the EU institutions are strengthening their support for culture, creativity, and Europe's rich cultural heritage.
