How can Europe better prepare for future crises?
And what does resilience mean in practice for our communities, schools and families?

A new online debate has launched on the Citizens’ Engagement Platform, inviting people across the EU to share their ideas on preparedness and resilience.

Whether facing climate disasters, pandemics or geopolitical challenges, Europe’s ability to respond effectively depends on strong collective preparedness. With its EU Preparedness Union Strategy, the European Commission highlights the key role that citizens, local communities and organisations play in building a resilient society.

The contributions gathered through this debate will feed into the ongoing initiatives on preparedness and will also support discussions of the upcoming European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness

Why share this with teachers and students?

The debate on preparedness is not only about emergency response, but also about critical thinking, solidarity, and active citizenship. The platform and the panel offer a concrete example of how citizens can take part in shaping EU policies and actions. It can therefore be a valuable resource for classroom discussions on:

  • EU decision-making and participatory democracy
  • Climate resilience and crisis response
  • Civic engagement and solidarity

Encourage your networks, teachers and students (16+) to explore the platform, reflect on what preparedness means in their context, and contribute their ideas.
