Do your students want to help change the world? The 'EU Democracy in Action’ Toolkit encourages students to take an active role in European issues with four interactive lessons on democracy in the EU and the European Citizens’ Initiative.
The European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) ‘EU Democracy in Action’ toolkit uses instruction, research, debate, project work and role play across four units so that pupils learn how decisions are made in the EU, how these decisions affect their everyday lives, and how the European Citizens’ Initiative allows them to join with others to shape EU policy on issues that they care about.
The ECI allows EU citizens to influence EU policies by putting topics on the EU agenda. This tool was launched in 2012, and the aim of this toolkit is to increase awareness of the ECI among students in the last two years of high school – showing them a way to be lifelong active citizens.
