A big step for Croatia

As of 1 January 2023, the euro area consists of 20 countries: Croatia is now one of the EU countries using the euro as its currency.

As of 1 January 2023, the euro area consists of 20 countries: Croatia is now one of the EU countries using the euro as its currency. Discover Croatia’s new euro coins.

On the same day, Croatia also joined the Schengen area. As with the other 22 EU countries* and four non-EU countries** which make up the Schengen area, Croatian nationals are no longer required to show their passports when moving from one Schengen country to another.
