European day of languages 2023

""

26 September is European day of languages (EDL). The general aim of this event is to encourage and maintain Europe's rich linguistic and cultural diversity. It also seeks to extend the range of languages that people learn throughout their lives in order to develop their language skills and reinforce intercultural understanding. EDL is an opportunity to celebrate all of Europe's languages, including minority languages and the languages of migrants. The day is an initiative of the Council of Europe and has been celebrated every year since the European Year of Languages in 2001.

The day’s official website has a collection of tongue twisters on video that shows just how linguistically diverse Europe really is.

Furthermore, to mark the day, the Commission is holding an event on Teaching language skills as well as a special edition of the KCI Virtual Café.
